Searchers have found three tourists missing in Kahurangi National Park.

The trio set off on what was supposed to be a three-day tramp of the Anatoki track at the top of the South Island on 15 April and were only reported missing at 5pm on Sunday.

On Monday, two search teams began looking for Jenny Rautio, 26, of Finland, 51-year-old Guy Verschuur from the United States, and a woman believed to be 22-year-old American Kristine Mattiace.

Police said they were found at the Anatoki Forks Hut shortly after 5pm and were taken to the police station at Takaka.

One of the women was receiving medical treatment, but all are believed to be okay.

Police said the trampers had sent a text message to a Golden Bay man on 13 April, who began his own unsuccessful search when they failed to return two days later.

Department of Conservation spokesperson Greg Napp said on Monday the Anatoki track required a high degree of fitness as there are long distances between the huts, and flooding in the area was causing concern for the group's safety.
