Families encouraged to wear medals on Anzac Day

8:22 pm on 23 April 2013

Family members of deceased former military personnel are being encouraged to wear their relatives' medals at Anzac Day services on Thursday.

The Defence Force says it is becoming a growing trend, but people need to be aware of the rules around wearing the decorations.

The Order of Wear allows for family members to wear the medals on the right side of the chest on national days of memorial.

Serving military personnel and veterans wear their medals on the left side.

The Chief of Defence Force, Lieutenant-General Rhys Jones, said that by wearing a deceased relative's military decorations people are honouring their memory.
