Hunua Falls signs reviewed after tourist death

Warning signs at Hunua Falls are to be reassessed after the death of a tourist this week.

A 20-year-old Indian man died at the popular Auckland spot on Anzac Day when he lost his footing while attempting to cross the falls.

Larger signs were installed last year after consultation between Auckland Council and Water Safety New Zealand, which will now meet to discuss the effectiveness of the signage.

A council spokesperson says large and prominent signs inform visitors of the dangers associated with the Hunua Falls.

Water Safety New Zealand chief executive Matt Claridge says barriers will not be introduced, as beauty spots should not be fenced off.
