Court rejects hot water cylinder burglar's appeal

A man convicted of stealing a hot water cylinder from a Christchurch home shortly after the February 2011 earthquake has had his appeal against multiple sentences dismissed.

Bradley Kahui took the cylinder from a private property and then sent a series of threatening texts to a woman living nearby who had witnessed the burglary.

That led to a conviction for attempting to pervert the course of justice, and he was also sentenced for committing several other crimes while on bail.

The Court of Appeal on Monday dismissed the appeal, saying it was aimed at securing the benefit of a credit for time served while on remand.
