Police have been told a missing Nelson man, Blair Steven Robinson, intended to go fishing near Kaikoura.
Mr Robinson left Nelson on 18 April and was due back four days later.
His Mitsubishi van was discovered by railway workers last Thursday at a remote rail siding at Wharanui in the Ure River area of south Marlborough.
Police have spoken to a person Mr Robinson visited in Hanmer Springs on 22 April who said he intended to go fishing near Kaikoura.
Ground searches along the Kaikoura coastline on Monday failed to locate him.
