Two men appeared in the Upper Hutt District Court on Thursday charged with the murder of a 64-year-old man.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thornton says the man died at his central Upper Hutt home on Wednesday afternoon.

He says officers were called to a disturbance at the house, and found the man to be seriously injured.

Mr Thornton says despite performing CPR, they were unable to save him.

He says police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the man's death.

Two Upper Hutt men, aged 18 and 41, were remanded in custody and granted name suppression in court.

Judge Chris Touhy also suppressed the victim's name.
