Police are hunting for two men they believe are trying to skim eftpos cards around the country.
Auckland police say the men installed a device over the card slot of an ATM on Queen Street on 9 April which an electronic chip that reads a card's details as it enters the machine.
Police say it appears the men planned to collect the device after a couple of hours, but a customer discovered it when it came off in his hand as he removed his card.
Acting Inspector Hirone Waretini says the suspects may now be targeting other areas and is warning people to be vigilant when using ATM machines.
