A large fire has broken out at a fishing company cold store at the port of Timaru.
Sanford Limited owns the store and its managing director, Eric Barratt, says the smoke was spotted by a watchman who called the fire service.
There were no employees on the site and the fire has now been extinguished.
Mr Barratt says an investigation will determine the cause of the fire but it's likely to have been a machinery malfunction.
