Mayor says council and Govt can agree over accord

Auckland Mayor Len Brown says technical worries about a housing accord between Auckland Council and the Government will not necessarily scupper the deal.

The accord is a key part of the Budget, delivered on Thursday.

Mr Brown said there are inconsistencies between the accord and the legislation which will bring it into play.

But he said there is goodwill between the Government and the council and the differences are not a deal-breaker.

Mr Brown said the legislation does not compromise the main principles of the accord, and any problems will be sorted out before it is finalised.
