NZ and US officials meet in Washington

7:43 pm on 23 May 2013

Senior New Zealand officials have been meeting with their United States counterparts in Washington as part of the fourth US-New Zealand strategic dialogue.

The regular meetings of senior officials were set up after the signing of the Wellington Declaration in 2010, which committed both countries' foreign ministers to meet regularly.

A statement put out by the US State Department says the two sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening their strategic partnership.

The meeting was opened by US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns and involved representatives from the Department of Defence, National Security staff and from the Office of the US Trade Representative.

Earlier this week, Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully held talks with the US Secretary of State John Kerry.
