Jailed Switched on Gardner pair to appeal

The owner and manager of the Switched on Gardener chain of stores, who have both been jailed on drug charges, are to appeal against their sentences.

On 30 April this year Michael Quinlan was sentenced in the Auckland District Court to four years and three months, while his manager, Peter Bennett, got three years and nine months for selling equipment used to cultivate cannabis.

The Crown had argued that the stores were a one-stop shop for cannabis products and information.

The judge said both men showed no real regret for their actions, but their lawyer, Paul Davison QC, said the sentences imposed were inappropriate.

He has lodged an appeal at the Court of Appeal.
