Auckland Mayor says tension with Govt inevitable

Auckland mayor Len Brown says it's inevitable the council and the Government are going to have public disagreements.

Auckland Council is nearing the end of its first term and tension has surfaced over how to deal with the city's housing shortage and the funding of major transport projects.

Mr Brown said that doesn't mean the overall relationship is poor.

He told Insight there will always be tension and the council and the Government will never agree on everything, no matter who the mayor and councillors are.

Mr Brown said what can be hoped for is courteous and constant communication, and policies in the city that generally line-up with the Government's.
