A train and truck collided near the Canterbury town of Ashburton but both drivers have escaped unharmed.
The crash happened at a rail crossing on Northpark Road, off the Rakaia Highway, about 9am on Tuesday.
A police spokesperson says the train driver struggled to get out of the train, but neither driver was injured.
The railway crossing was closed to traffic and police were at the scene.
