Slip residents advised to get independent engineers

Wellington City Council is encouraging residents affected by a landslide 10 days ago to get an independent engineer's report for their own satisfaction.

Some of the 35 people still barred from their properties plan to get independent advice on what caused the slip and are challenging the council to prove it is not liable for the landslide.

The council says it has just started investigating the cause.

Spokesperson Richard MacLean said some residents blame council infrastructure for the slip, but the council is not willing to take the blame.

He said a broken water main on the night before the slip was not big enough to have caused it and there were no significant issues with sewer or storm water in the area.
