A man who allegedly used an airgun to shoot at people from a car at the weekend will appear in the Christchurch District Court later this week.

A cyclist and three pedestrians were shot at and seven bus shelters damaged on Friday night and Saturday morning on Riccarton and Lincoln roads.

Inspector Derek Erasmus said police are interviewing victims of the shooting and are calling for further members of the public to come forward.

Police said the man was in a black sedan and seemed to target people randomly.

The 22-year-old has been charged with reckless discharge of an airgun and will appear in court on Thursday.
