Boy suspended after smashing windows

A seven-year-old boy who forced a Northland school to go into lockdown mode has been suspended.

Mangakahia Area School says the boy became upset on his second day there and began walking around the grounds carrying a pair of scissors.

All students were told to stay in their classroom during the episode on Monday.

Principal Jacqui Tyrrell said the boy smashed four windows and police were called to take him home.

Ms Tyrrell said she met the boy and his family on Tuesday morning and he apologised.

However, the board of trustees has suspended him and the school has contacted government support agencies about the incident.
