Kerikeri man recovering after bleach attack

8:10 pm on 12 June 2013

A Kerikeri man who had bleach thrown in his face by robbers has escaped permanent damage to his eyes.

The Northland Regional Council worker was attacked by two men after he pulled over to find out why they were following his council ute and flashing their headlights.

The pair took the 45-year-old's cellphone and emptied his wallet at knifepoint, cutting his face, then threw the bleach.

Council chairman Craig Brown said on Thursday he has been advised that the man is recovering from what appears to be a bizarre and random assault.

The attack happened at the junction of State Highway 10 and Oromahoe Road about 7am on Monday.
