A man has been arrested after shooting at police with an air rifle on Auckland's North Shore.
The police were called to Awaruku Road in Torbay after 5pm on Friday after reports of a man randomly firing shots in the street.
They say the 49-year-old man shot at a police helicopter, and then took cover in his home.
As he become more aggressive, the Armed Offenders Squad was called out.
Police then surrounded the house and he came out firing ten shots at officers, a police dog was released and apprehended the man. He was taken to hospital with superficial dog bites.
The dog was hit by the air rifle, and has been taken to a vet.
The police say no decision has yet been made as to what charges will be laid against the man.
Cordons are still in place while the Armed Offenders Squad confirm the area is safe.
