Man in Ohakune dies after leaving bar

A 30-year-old man has died after being found unconscious part way down a bank in Ohakune.

Police say emergency services were called about 1.15am to the area where the man was found.

They say initial inquiries suggest the man was involved in an incident at a bar in the central North Island town.

After leaving the bar, the man appears to have walked along a poorly lit area and jumped over a deer fence, which had a drop of about eight metres on the other side.

Police say emergency services gave the man CPR but he died at the scene.

Inspector Marty Parker of Police Central Communications says the man is not a Ohakune local and his details will be released once his next of kin have been advised.
