Waikato police have found what they describe as a sophisticated methamphetamine lab during a series of raids on rural properties.

The lab was found at a property in Collins Road near Hamilton on Tuesday. A large amount of equipment and chemicals was seized, along with a pistol.

Two men, aged 51 and 48, will appear in the Hamilton District Court on Wednesday.

They are charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of equipment with the intent to manufacture the drug and unlawful possession of a weapon.
