Cold snap sees Auckland's power use surge

3:07 pm on 24 June 2013

The recent cold snap has led to Aucklanders using the most electricity they have for the year.

Power company Vector electricity consumption last week peaked at nearly 1800 megawatts at 7pm on Thursday, more than 100 megawatts higher than the same period last year.

Spokesperson, Sandy Hodge, says higher peaks are expected in the coming months.

She says Vector provides electricity to more than 400,000 customers in Auckland.
