Serious Novopay defects 'nearly fixed'

5:45 pm on 26 June 2013

Education Secretary Peter Hughes says the number of serious defects in the Novopay school payroll system will be reduced to a small number by the end of June.

Mr Hughes told Parliament's Education and Science select committee on Wednesday the number of category two defects, a group described as serious in official documents, will drop to low single figures by the end of the month.

He said 110 people are working on the backlog of pay transactions that built up after Novopay was introduced last August.

Mr Hughes said the only constraint on work to fix Novopay is access to highly skilled people.
