Officer who broke teen's teeth at party cleared

An Auckland police officer who pushed a teenage girl to the ground at an out-of control party will not face disciplinary action.

Ella Eketone lost two front teeth and suffered facial injuries after being knocked to the ground by a police officer at a party in Howick in February.

At the time, 35 police officers were trying to clear the party of about 150 people.

Counties Manukau District Commander, Superintendent John Tims, says the officer didn't intend to cause the 15-year-old any harm.

Mr Tims says the officer remains at work and no disciplinary action will occur.

"The police acted appropriately and professionally on the night in clearing the party and keeping people from destroying other properties and injuring themselves."

Mr Tims says the response was "proportionate given the scale and the nature of the disorder".

The Independent Police Conduct Authority is also investigating.
