This year's finalists for the Montana New Zealand book awards have been announced.
The judges have narrowed more than 200 entries to a line-up of 26 contenders, divided into eight categories.
For the first time, the national winner of the children's book of the year has been selected as a finalist in the Montana awards.
Kate De Goldi's book The 10pm Question is included in the fiction category.
It was awarded the New Zealand Post Book Award for children and young adults on 20 May.
The categories for the Montana New Zealand Book Awards are fiction, poetry, biography, history, illustration, environment, lifestyle and contemporary culture, and reference and anthology.
The winners will be announced on 27 July.
