Talks on Sealord Nelson plant extended

4:26 pm on 3 June 2009

Mediation on a dispute threatening the future of Sealord's fish processing plant in Nelson has been extended until Thursday.

Sealord says it may have to close the plant unless it can cut labour costs by $1.8 million a year.

The Service and Food Workers Union has been resisting the moves as part of its collective bargaining, instead demanding a 10% pay rise over three years.

Mediation was due to end on Wednesday.

Neither party will comment on the talks.
