Police found a man's wedding ring in the boot of the car where an Auckland woman's strangled body was discovered, a High Court jury has been told.

Nai Yin Xue, 55, is on trial for the murder An An Liu, 28, in September 2007, before abandoning their daughter in Melbourne.

The couple's daughter Qian Xun Xue, then aged 3, was found alone at Melbourne Railway Station a few days before her mother's body was discovered in the boot of a car in Auckland.

Mr Xue was later apprehended in the United States. He denies the murder charge and is being tried at the High Court in Auckland.

Police officers who found Ms Liu's body told the court there was a tie knotted around her neck and covering her eyes.

She was wearing a green dressing gown, which the Crown contends was Mr Xue's and there were pink pyjama pants and red underwear beside her.

One officer told the court there was a jacket in the car with two men's rings, including a wedding ring, in the pocket.

The defence has produced a photograph showing Mr Xue wearing no rings.
