The Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic are now second in the trans-Tasman netball standings after losing 54-35 to the Thunderbirds in Adelaide on Sunday.

The Thunderbirds led by 2 at quarter-time, 13 at half time and 16 at three-quarter time.

It was just the second loss of the season for the Magic, who put up 17 less shots than their opponents with Irene van Dyk shooting at just 76%.

The loss means the Melbourne Vixens finish first going into the playoffs ahead of the Magic, with the Thunderbirds in third place.

The Southern Steel are currently fourth, but if the Queensland Firebirds score a big win over the West Coast Fever in Perth on Monday night, they will grab the last play-off spot.
