A New Zealand woman is reported to be facing fraud charges that allege she ran an illegal seasonal job recruitment scheme, based in the Philippines.

The Philippine Daily Inquirer online news service reports the woman, based in Manila, offered people non-existent fruit picking jobs in New Zealand in 2007.

It is alleged the woman, who the Inquirer names as Florida Brown, was offering jobs for a fee of about $10,600.

The Department of Labour in New Zealand has confirmed it is investigating the woman's activities.

Fruit industry representatives in New Zealand say the woman is not known to them.
