All Blacks coaching appointments draw comment

Critics are flabbergasted at the reappointment of Graham Henry as All Blacks coach.

Henry and his two assistants, Steve Hansen and Wayne Smith, will will keep their jobs through until the end of the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

Their re-appointment was announced by the New Zealand Rugby Union before Henry proves the All Blacks are up to it in the Tri Nations series which starts next week. They will play the Wallabies next weekend in Auckland.

Two out of three substandard Tests have already been played against France and Italy this season.

Henry was appointed in 2004 and was at the helm when the All Blacks lost the quarter-final at the 2007 World Cup.

Former NZ Rugby Union chief executive David Moffett says the next World Cup is not winnable with Henry at the helm.

Moffett says it is an indictment on the NZRU to hint that nobody else is ready for the top job.

Billy Bush, who played for the All Blacks in the 1970s, says he would like to see former coach Laurie Mains return and share duties with former captain Wayne Shelford.

Frank Bunce, a 55-Test veteran, concedes there have been poor performances and bad losses during Henry's tenure, but he says the coaches still have a lot to offer. He is in "100% support".

Meanwhile, former Wallabies captain Nick Farr-Jones says Australians don't really care who coaches the All Blacks.
