Report soon on country's 'most contaminated site'

A paper the government describes as a key report into New Zealand's most contaminated site will be made public at the end of July.

Mapua, near Nelson, was the site of the Fruitgrowers Chemical Company.

The Ministry of the Environment has received a final report that will be unveiled at a public meeting on 31 July.

The minister, Nick Smith, says it will determine whether the site is fit for the community to use for recreational, commercial and residential purposes.

Dr Smith says he'd hoped the Medical Officer of Health's report on Mapua would be ready by now, but it has been held up by the swine flu outbreak.
