Charity fundraising hit by recession

8:09 am on 20 July 2009

The Auckland City Mission's winter appeal is down $20,000 this year compared with last year, the organisation says.

City Missioner Diane Robertson says the number of donors has actually risen by 15% this year but each one is giving less than previously.

She says the average size of donations is down 20%, leaving the mission with less money overall.

The City Mission says the drop in donations is happening at a time when demand for help is up by more than 50% compared with the same period last year.
