Booklet explains protection orders to children

A booklet aimed at explaining protection orders to children has been released by the Family Court.

Principal Family Court Judge Peter Boshier says children are frequently caught in the middle of family violence.

Judge Boshier told Morning Report that the booklet tries to get across the message that both the child's mother and father have a duty to keep them safe, and sets out what actions the parents should take.

It explains that children aged 7 to 12 are covered by protection orders automatically and that they have rights.

Judge Boshier says the booklet tries to get across the message that violence is unacceptable and that there is something children can do about it without feeling guilty.
