Honda is to recall hundreds of cars in New Zealand to fix a potentially lethal airbag fault.
The company on Friday issued a global recall for 440,000 Civic and Accord model cars made between 2001 - 2003 because the driver's side airbag can rupture because of too much air pressure.
This can cause metal fragments to shoot through the airbag and strike vehicle occupants.
Honda says the fault has been linked to the death of one person and several other injuries.
Honda New Zealand says 652 cars here are affected.
Managing director Graeme Seymour says vehicle owners should wait to be contacted by the company because only certain vehicles are affected.
He says the faults will be fixed at no cost to owners.
