Mayor joins chorus of frustration over rail delays

Kapiti Mayor Jenny Rowan is the latest to express frustration at the problems faced by Wellington train commuters.

KiwiRail blames the delays and breakdowns on trying to keep a network running during a $500 million upgrade.

Commuters on the Kapiti Coast were delayed on Thursday for the third consecutive day.

Passenger general manager Deborah Hume told Nine to Noon the Kapiti Coast delays were again caused by old stock.

Latest figures show passengers numbers are down by 733,000 (6.7%) throughout the Wellington region over the past year.

Ms Rowan told Nine to Noon no delay is acceptable and the amount of train problems experienced was not good enough.

She said even one delay can cause huge disruption to people trying to get home to families after work.
