A man has appeared in court charged with murder, following the fatal shooting in Hawke's Bay on Sunday.
Wilson Apatu, 39, made a brief appearance in Napier District Court shortly before midday on Monday, dressed in a police issue jumpsuit.
Along with the murder charge, he was charged with attempted murder and aggravated robbery of a Ford ute using a knife as a weapon, and was remanded in custody until 23 September.
Police have named the dead man as Layden Thomas Rameka, 32. His son Zepplen-Solly Rameka, aged 8, who was shot in the arm, is recovering in Hawke's Bay hospital.
Wilson Apatu, from Waikoau, was arrested at a relative's house in Clive, south of Napier, just before 11.30pm on Sunday.
Napier police say inquiries into the homicide are continuing.
