Meal break legislation to be reviewed

9:12 pm on 3 September 2009

The Government says it will review the law that guarantees workers rest and meal breaks.

The amendment to the Employment Relations Act was passed last year under the previous Labour-led government and came into force in April this year.

Minister of Labour Kate Wilkinson says it is creating problems for many businesses, especially those with staff in sole charge situations.

She says the law does not allow enough flexibility over the times workers can take breaks.

Ms Wilkinson says that is especially a concern for air traffic controllers, but also for other employers such as pharmacies, schools and meatworks.
