A man appeared in the Whangarei District Court on Saturday on charges including injuring with intent, assault with a weapon and breach of a Protection Order.
Police say he was detained after a violent attack on his partner in the settlement of Taheke, near Kaikohe.
The incident resulted in an Armed Offenders Squad callout.
