Police have identified a man found dead in South Auckland early on Sunday.
He was Savelio Uati Peauvasa, 43, of West Auckland.
The body was found by members of the public in the Otara town centre car park just before 4am.
A 33-year-old man appeared in Manukau District Court on Monday afternoon, charged with assault.
His identity and the summary of facts were suppressed.
Counties Manukau police say it is likely he will face other charges, but they are waiting on the results of a post-mortem examination before deciding how to proceed.
