Disgraced singer Judd defends stalking girls

New Zealand-born pop singer Phil Judd believes he did nothing wrong when he stalked three primary school girls in Australia.

The founding member of The Swingers and Split Enz has admitted stalking the children since 2004 when the youngest was eight and the oldest 12.

Judd, 56, pleaded guilty to one charge of stalking earlier this year but is unrepentant, saying he was an "aesthete" who photographed and followed the girls because of their beauty.

He also posed as a 17-year-old boy on the social networking page Facebook and befriended one of the girls.

Judd, who lives in the north Melbourne suburb of Eltham, received a 12-month suspended sentence and a $3000 fine.

Eleni Hale, a journalist who covered the case for Melbourne's Herald Sun described Judd's behaviour.

"He'd sort of position himself and watch them coming from school, going to school. He'd come out in his bike shorts and make the girls feel very uncomfortable - they became quite scared of him and nicknamed him the creepy stalky man."

Ms Hale told Morning Report things went downhill after Judd followed the girls to their pony club and took photogaphs of them.

She says Judd told her he was just "a silly old man" and the only mistake he made was getting on to Facebook "after a few too many drinks".

The mother of the three stalked girls believes the sentence is a disgrace.
