Rare paintings on show at Auckland Art Gallery

Five rare paintings by some of the world's most famous artists have gone on display at the Auckland Art Gallery.

The works by Cezanne, Picasso, Matisse, Gauguin, and Mondrian are part of a multi million-dollar collection being bequeathed to the gallery by philanthropists Julian and Josie Robertson.

Auckland Art Gallery director Chris Saines says the paintings are very special and there are no other works of their quality or scale in New Zealand.

Mr Saines says the works are on display until Friday.
