Singer considers running for Invercargill mayoralty

Country music singer Suzanne Prentice is considering running against Invercargill mayor Tim Shadbolt at next year's local elections.

Ms Prentice says she's concerned about what's happening within Invercargill City Council.

Mr Shadbolt lost a vote of no confidence in his deputy Neil Boniface at a special council meeting on Monday, following an ongoing public spat.

He has been mayor of Invercargill since 1993, apart from a spell from 1995 - 1998.

Ms Prentice would not comment on whether she has backing from incumbent councillors.

She says she will weigh her options over the summer break and make a decision next year.
