A deed of settlement has been signed between the Crown and central North Island iwi Ngati Manawa.

The signing took place at Rangitahi Marae in Murupara on Saturday.

Te Runanga o Ngati Manawa chairman Bill Bird says it has concluded the historical relationship the tribe has with the Crown.

Other matters are yet to be settled and will be negotiated with the Crown next year, he say.

These include redress relating to the Rangitaiki River, the effect of climate change and the allocation of fresh water rights.
