Police in Dunedin have completed their scene examination of an Argyle Street house where a woman was assaulted twice on Sunday night.

The woman was attacked by a Maori man at about 10.40pm after an altercation with him and another man outside the house in the suburb of Mornington.

She opened her door 15 minutes later expecting her partner, but instead the same man forced his way in and sexually assaulted her.

Her two children were asleep in the house at the time.

Detective Senior Sergeant Kallum Croudis says forensic scientists have taken samples from the house and results are due back in early January.

He says police have interviewed neighbours and spoken to the woman's six-year-old son.

Mr Croudis says police are still seeking information on the two men involved in the incident.
