Melting snow causing rivers to rise

11:22 am on 3 July 2013

Warm weather in Otago has caused snow to melt, pushing some rivers around the region to high levels.

Otago Regional Council said they include the Clutha and Taieri rivers and Kakanui river in North Otago.

But the Manuherikia River in Central Otago poses the most concern and the council warns of flooding in low lying areas.

It said heavy rain in the headwaters should ease on Wednesday afternoon, but the bad weather could return in the weekend.
