The Department of Conservation will on Friday attempt to rescue a lighthouse teetering on a cliff edge in Christchurch.
The lighthouse at Godley Head was damaged in the February and June earthquakes in 2011.
DoC said an abseiling company has this week been freeing the copper roof of the lighthouse so it can be moved by helicopter this afternoon.
Community relations manager Grant Campbell said that will allow abseilers inside to loosen the remaining pieces, which will be moved on Monday.
The concrete shell of the lighthouse will be left behind to eventually fall down the cliff, where access is closed to the public.
