Orion continues to restore power to Canterbury properties

5:42 pm on 7 July 2013

Fewer than 50 homes in Canterbury are now without electricity after high winds brought down power lines overnight on Friday and Saturday.

Lines company Orion says it expects most of those still affected to have their power restored on Sunday night.

However, its chief executive Rob Jamieson says a small number of homes will have to wait until Monday.

Those still without power are mostly in rural Canterbury, with a few in Christchurch and Banks Peninsula also affected.

Mr Jamieson says most of the remaining faults affect only one or two customers, so progress is not as rapid as earlier when each repair brought power back on to hundreds of customers.
