Hawke's Bay hit by 4.9 quake

12:00 pm on 8 July 2013

A moderate earthquake hit Hawkes Bay just before 10 o'clock on Monday morning.

It shook for about 25 seconds.

Geonet says the quake measured 4.9 on the Richter scale. It was located 30 kilometres east of Waipukurau and was 64 kilometres deep.

Lyn Bailey, who works at Bellantino's food store in Havelock North, says it was a bigger than usual quake but not big enough to cause any damage.

She says it shook the thousands of glass bottles at the store but nothing broke.

Police and the fire service says no damage has been reported.
