The Desert Road remains closed due to snow on Thursday.
The road has been shut since Wednesday due to wintery weather in the North Island and the New Zealand Transport Agency says it will remain that way until further notice.
Motorists can use alternative routes on State Highway 49 from Waiouru to Raetihi, State Highway 4 from Raetihi to National Park, and State Highway 47 from National Park to Turangi.
