7:38 pm on 17 July 2013

A man accused of a string of robberies in Auckland targeting elderly people has reappeared in court.

William Murphy faces 15 charges including aggravated robbery, indecent assault and multiple counts of robbery and detaining a person.

In one attack in June, a 74-year-old woman was tied up and beaten in her Pakuranga home.

When Mr Murphy appeared via audio-visual link at the Auckland District Court on Wednesday he spoke non-stop and the link had to be muted to allow proceedings to continue.

His lawyer Peter Eastwood told the court his client's outburst related to some other issues of identity and privacy that he wanted to raise.

Mr Murphy was further remanded in cusody and will reappear in August.
