Council receives briefing on chief executive

2:22 pm on 18 July 2013

Christchurch City Council has met behind closed doors for an update on the actions of chief executive Tony Marryatt, who remains on indefinite leave.

An investigation is under way into the alleged failure of Mr Marryatt and senior managers to inform councillors that the council faced losing its building consent accreditation.

The council lost its accreditation on 8 July, which was followed by a loss of insurance cover, a credit downgrade and the appointment of a Crown manager to supervise the building consents department.

The briefing on Thursday from the chief executive subcommittee is not expected to be made public.

The investigation is due to be completed by mid-August.
